There are many types of subwoofer enclosures and aperiodic membrane is one of them. For short explanation, it is an air-permeable sheet that have a frequency-dependent acoustical resistance properties. Earlier they were used in a home theater system, but now some individuals and companies has adapt it for a car subwoofer system.
This aperiodic membrane technique has been used in an aftermarket car audio. A resistive mat is placed directly behind or in front of the loudspeaker driver that usually placed on the rear deck of the vehicle so that we can use the trunk as an enclosures. In order to get all acoustical output in one way through the mat then the loudspeaker driver must be sealed to the mat.
